Our history
Founded by a Wall Street journalist and a magazine designer
In 1962, Leslie Segal and Dick Lewis had an idea—that great storytelling and engaging design could create an industry. And so smarter and more strategic annual reports were born and transformed forever. Today we call this union Strategy Made Visible®.
The Wolff and the goldfish
As part of a major global agency in the 1980s, our then Global Creative Director Michael Wolff created our famous goldfish in 1987. That enduring symbol proved to have incredible brand recall and helped launch our branding business. People from decades ago still remember Addison by our beautiful goldfish.

From brownstones to skyscrapers
We bought three brownstones and linked them together on rather seedy 34th Street in 1963. Three decades later we moved into Chiat Day’s old office in Union Square during the 1990s. In 2001 we moved downtown to Exchange Place, and then to Wall Street in 2012 before it became a hub of downtown chic. Our final home is in the beautiful Bank of New York skyscraper, in an office space designed by Gensler.
